 UI'SU Writes FG, Ministry of Education, Calls for Intervention to Stop ASUU Strike

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has written to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Ministry of Education, urging them to avert the proposed ASUU strike scheduled to commence on October 13th, 2025.

The Union asserted that while they are not ignorant of the longing dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government, Nigerian students remain the most vulnerable group, facing the repercussions whenever such unresolved contradictions occur between the two parties.

The Union acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Education,which was reflected in a statement by Honourable Dr. Tunji Alausa. He indicated some progress toward stopping the strike which includes the release of ₦50 million for Earned Academic Allowance and the allocation of ₦150 million in the 2025 budget for the Needs Assessment Intervention. However, the Union encouraged the Ministry to ensure that these promises are implemented beyond announcements.

They also commended ASUU for its forbearance in preventing a strike over the past three years and for its reluctance to embark on a warning strike despite issuing a fourteen-day ultimatum to the Federal Government. However, the Union appealed to ASUU to exercise patience for the sake of Nigerian students, who would be the most affected by this strike action.

OSISANWO BECOMES FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Zenas Olanipekun Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of the Department of English, University of Ibadan has received his promotion to become a full Professor, effective October 1st, 2025 . He is now Professor Ayodele A. Osisanwo. His field cuts across Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. In an interview with the NASELS Press, he admitted that the validation process started a year ago, but the journey itself involved burning the midnight oil, considering the number of papers he had to write and submit for assessment.
