The University of Ibadan Students’ Union Backs SSANU, NASU Strike, Raises Alarm Over Student Hardship

  Joy Olu-Ajayi  The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) on the 5th of May, 2026, has declared its solidarity with the ongoing industrial action by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), while expressing concern over the growing hardship faced by students as the strike continues. In a statement released on Tuesday, the student body affirmed its support for the unions’ demand for fair treatment and institutional justice, stressing that “an injustice to one is an injustice to all.” Despite this support, the Union noted that the timing of the strike occurring in the middle of the academic semester has significantly disrupted student welfare and daily life on campus. UI Students' Union Releases Resolutions from Stakeholders’ Meeting

  By Adewale Amoo The Students' Union of the University of Ibadan in a statement sent out on the 1st of May 2026, has released the resolutions of the Student Welfare Stakeholders' meeting concerning the repair of kitchenettes, electricity supply and fee discrepancies.  The statement stated, "The Students' Union, University of Ibadan, wishes to inform the general student body of the resolutions reached during the Stakeholders' meeting held on April 30, 2026." The Union communicated that the University Management, jointly with Hall Wardens and Hall Chairpersons, would prepare the total estimate for the repair of the kitchenettes and the Management would prioritise its approval for their prompt renovation to functional standards. “It was agreed that the University Management in collaboration with Hall Wardens and Hall Chairpersons will finalise the repair estimate within the next few days”, the statement reads.  On the issue of electricity supply, the Union state...
