 Esther Ogunleye The National Association of English and Literature Students, University of Ibadan (NASELS UI), has organised a virtual training aimed at guiding undergraduates, especially NASELSites, on how to successfully apply for the Millennium Campus Fellowship (MCF). The training, themed “How to Apply for and Get Picked for the Millennium Campus Fellowship (MCF)”, was held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, by 9:00 p.m., via Google Meet. The session was facilitated by Blessings Emmanuel, NASELS UI President and a Campus Director of the Millennium Campus Fellowship, 2025 Cohort, who is also actively involved in the programme.   Adewale Amoo The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, extended the deadline for student loan applications for the 2025/2026 academic session, in a move aimed at ensuring that all eligible students have access to the initiative. In a statement signed by its Director, Strategic Communications, Mrs Oyesemi Oluwatuyi, in Abuja, explained that the extension was to allow prospective applicants additional time to complete and submit their applications.   Adewale Amoo The University of Ibadan has released the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session, outlining the dates for the commencement of registration, lectures, examination periods, release of examination results and the commencement date of the 2026/2027 academic session. According to the release, online registration for newly admitted students will commence on the 19th of January, 2026. Virtual orientation for new students will also begin on the same date and end the following day, 20th of January, 2026. In addition, five weeks of virtual lectures for fresh students will run from the 21st of January, 2026 to the 27th of February, 2026. The release further states that physical resumption for new students is scheduled for 2nd of March, 2026, while returning students are expected to resume and commence online registration on the 5th of March, 2026.   Adewale Amoo Nigeria’s Premier University, the University of Ibadan, has emerged as the best university in the country in 2026, according to the evaluation and assessment by Times Higher Education (THE). According to the organisation, the University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos occupy the top positions among Nigerian universities, with Covenant University, ranked best in 2025, relegated to third position alongside Bayero University in the 2026 rankings. The total number of universities ranked globally is 2,191 from 115 countries.   Joy Olu-Ajayi   The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI), has congratulated the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) on the occasion of its fifth anniversary, in a statement released on the 23rd of January, 2026.  The UCJ UI praised FIJ for its impactful investigative reports that have “exposed corruption, human rights abuses and systemic failures” in Nigeria. It was also noted that FIJ, founded on 20th of January, 2020 by investigative journalist and UCJ UI alumnus, Fisayo Soyombo, has remained committed to holding power accountable and “amplifying the voices of the marginalised”.
