CSM Condemns Delay in University of Ibadan’s 2026 Union Election, Describes It An Attack on the Union

  By Adewale Amoo The Concerned Students Movement (CSM) has condemned the delay in the commencement of the 2026 University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’S Union) leadership transition process, describing it as an attack on the Union. In a press release dated September 6, 2026, and signed by its Coordinator, Feranmi Gabriel, and Secretary, Omolaye Emmanuel, the Movement expressed concern that the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session was already more than eight weeks old and nearing its end without the commencement of the electoral process. The CSM said the election should be conducted within a reasonable timeframe to give students enough opportunity to engage aspirants, examine their ideas and programmes and make informed decisions about those seeking to represent them. “As a pro-rights movement, we of the Concerned Students Movement (CSM) vehemently condemn the continued delay to commence and conduct the UI'SU 2026 transition election,” the Movement stated. University of Ibadan English Lecturer Appointed West Midlands Open University Vice-Chancellor

  By Adewale Amoo The first Professor of Literature and Medicine in Nigeria from the Department of English, University of Ibadan, and the former DLC Director, Professor Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale, was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Ikeja, on the 27th August, 2026. Omobowale’s appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution was announced through a congratulatory message by the erstwhile Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and the Chairman of the Governing Council, West Midlands Open University, Professor Idowu Olayinka, via his official Facebook page. “Kindly join me in congratulating Professor Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale of the Department of English, University of Ibadan, on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Ikeja, Lagos State,” the statement reads in part. NASELS UI Holds Grand Finale of Three-day Empowerment Skills Program Virtually

Elizabeth Olupona  The grand finale of the three-day Future Ready Academy and AI Boot Camp aimed at developing students was organised today via Google Meet. The program which spanned from  Saturday, 15th of August up to Friday, 21st of August and Saturday, 22nd of August, 2026 came to an end today. The boot camp started at exactly 12:00pm with the first trainer, Ms Rihanat Makinde, a representative from Tekrise Academy –an organisation in partnership with the boot camp, giving an expert-led training about AI Automation. “AI is not going to replace you only if you know how to leverage it.”, she stated. The bootcamp , organised by the National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies(NASELS), University of Ibadan, was themed "Future Ready Academy and AI Boot Camp." The program started at exactly 3:00pm via Google Meet with the first trainer, Ms. Taiwo Olayinka, a 4th year law student, who spoke on Project Management. UI Students' Union Secures One-Week Extension for Add-and-Delete Portal

  Adewale Amoo  The University of Ibadan Students' Union, led by Adeboye Temidayo (DEBOYE), has announced an extension of the add-and-delete deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, which was earlier scheduled to close on 14th August 2026. According to a short statement obtained via the official WhatsApp status of the Students' Union President, Comrade Adeboye Temidayo (DEBOYE), the extension was secured following engagement with the University management. "The closure of the Add and Delete Portal, earlier scheduled for tomorrow, has been granted a one-week extension. The portal will therefore remain open until Friday, 21st August," the statement read. The union further enjoined students to make good use of the grace period: "Students who still have issues with their course registration or need to make necessary additions or deletions are advised to make use of this grace period and ensure that their course forms are properly sorted before the new deadline....

UI Opens Portal for NELFUND Loan Refund for 2025/2026 Academic Session

Adewale Amoo  The University of Ibadan management has opened the portal for the 2025/2026 academic session NELFUND loan refund. In a statement made available to the student community by the Students' Union President, Comrade Adeboye Temidayo (DEBOYE), via his personal WhatsApp status, all students who have paid their school fees in full or in part before the approval of their NELFUND loan for the 2025/2026 academic session are required to log in to https://uinelfundsupport.ui.edu.ng and provide the necessary information for refunds. "The portal for refund will be open from Monday, 17th August 2026, for a period of four (4) weeks. Students are advised to read and carefully follow all instructions in the manual before submitting the required details. The status of refund can be tracked on the same platform.
