  NASELS Electoral Commission Announces the Lift of Ban Abigail Kareem   The National Association of Students of English and Literary studies Independent Commission (NASELSIEC) made a special release of the lift of ban on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. The lift of ban which implies that there is an official acknowledgement and permission for electoral activities which includes buying of forms for a post in the association and also official campaigns for interested aspirants was e-signed by the Chairperson, Adewale Samad Blessings and some other officers of the electoral commission. The official statement also states that “aspiring candidates are invited to purchase election forms and contest for various positions as soon as the sales of forms begin.” It further states the eligibility of a candidate for a post, which includes that such candidate be a registered and financial member of the Department of English, University of Ibadan.

Three NASELSites Win AFAS Election

 Three NASELSites Win AFAS Election NEWS DESK Three students from the Department of English have won the AFAS election, emerging as the President, Vice President, and Public Relations Officer in the e-voting exercise held on 20th November, 2025. Ebenezer Adeyefa, who ran unopposed, secured a total of 452 votes. Okunola Sunmisola contested alongside two other candidates and won with 216 votes, against 175 and 99 votes scored by the other contestants. Lastly, Emmanuel Fanibe, who also ran unopposed, polled a total of 437 votes. This victory marks another historic moment for the department, as all three NASELSites who contested at the faculty level emerged victorious. In an interview with Sunmisola, who ran opposed for the office of Vice President and emerged the winner, commented that she feels honoured to be elected by AFASites into the esteemed position.   AFASIEC UI Conducts First-Ever Fully Online Election for 2025/2026 Academic Session Adewale Amoo On Thursday, November 20, 2025, the Association of Faculty of Arts Students’ Independent Electoral Commission (AFASIEC) at the University of Ibadan conducted its first-ever fully online election for candidates vying for executive positions in the Faculty of Arts for the 2025/2026 academic session. This marked a historic milestone in the faculty’s electoral process, as the election was held exclusively through an e-voting platform. The election exercise, which was strictly e-voting, had eligible voters receive voting links via their student emails within the stipulated voting hours. This allowed students to exercise their civic rights as bonafide AFAS members.   Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union Holds “MASOGEESI” Tertiary Institution Competition  Esther Ogunleye The Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union University of Ibadan Chapter (FIBSU’UI), on the 12th of November, 2025, has held a tertiary institution competition titled MASOGEESI: Prof. Remi Raji Tertiary Institution Competition, that brings together students from different institutions to showcase their eloquence and mastery of the Yoruba language.   Anuoluwa Adewole Emerges as Best Graduating Student of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan (Female Category) Joy Esther Olu-Ajayi  Anuoluwa Pamilerin Adewole has emerged the best graduating student of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts and the best graduating female in the University of Ibadan for the 77th convocation ceremony with a CGPA of 3.93.  In an interview, Anuoluwa expressed her heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported her throughout her academic journey, including her classmates, lecturers, siblings, supervisors, family members and most importantly, God. She said, "My experience here has been bitter-sweet. UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN HOLDS CAREER FAIR 2025 Zenas Olanipekun The University of Ibadan on the 7th November, 2025 held her career fair 2025 at the International Conference Centre.  The event tagged, “Tech, Talent and Tomorrow: Preparing Nigeria Youth for global opportunities,” had in attendance the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor ( Research, innovation and strategic Partnerships), Prof Demola Lewis(Dean of Students), Dean of Faculties and other principal officers of the University.   NASELSites Unwind Day 2 with Games and Costumes  Rebecca Akinsola  The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), University of Ibadan, held a Games and Costume Day, on Wednesday 5th, November, 2025, at the Faculty of Arts Quadrangle.  The EUPHORIA second event was tagged Games/Costume/Jersey Day, and it featured a variety of activities including photo sessions, indoor games, networking, and lots of fun. The event, which was initially postponed from Tuesday, recorded more than an average turnout from NASELSites, even though the schedule clashed with classes. The game session officially began around 12pm at the Faculty Quadrangle with several games such as Ludo, Chess, Scrabble, and Whot. NASELSites from different levels participated in the games.  UI Extend Exams Period to Dec 31st, Stirs Reactions Amidst Students Oluwafeyisayo Adebanjo  The University of Ibadan Management has released an updated academic calendar that extends examination period to Dec 31st, 2025, stirring different reactions amidst students. The management revised the current academic calendar, extending it by two weeks to accommodate the disruption caused by the two-week ASUU strike. With this, GES exams will begin on the 24th of November, 2025 while Faculties exams will begin from 1st December to 31st December, 2025. The updated calendar has however stirred different reactions amidst students who realised they will be spending the festive period at school as examination spans to the end of the year.  UI Electoral Commission Lifts Ban on Campaign Activities Joy Olu-Ajayi   The Students’ Union Electoral Commission, University of Ibadan (SUECUI), has announced the official lifting of the campaign ban for the 2024/2025 academic session, effective from 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025. According to the notice released by the Commission, the ban on all electioneering activities has been officially lifted, signalling the commencement of full electoral processes for the academic session. The Commission also urged students to stay tuned for further updates on the collection and submission of nomination forms, as inquiries regarding the process can be directed to the Logistics Chairman.  However, the UI Student’s’ Representative Council may not have approved this decision as the Council had not been able to sit in a while due to its failure to form a quorum.
