  By Adewale Amoo The first Professor of Literature and Medicine in Nigeria from the Department of English, University of Ibadan, and the former DLC Director, Professor Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale, was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Ikeja, on the 27th August, 2026. Elizabeth Olupona  The grand finale of the three-day Future Ready Academy and AI Boot Camp aimed at developing students was organised today via Google Meet. The program which spanned from  Saturday, 15th of August up to Friday, 21st of August and Saturday, 22nd of August, 2026 came to an end today. The boot camp started at exactly 12:00pm with the first trainer, Ms Rihanat Makinde, a representative from Tekrise Academy –an organisation in partnership with the boot camp, giving an expert-led training about AI Automation. “AI is not going to replace you only if you know how to leverage it.”, she stated.   Elizabeth Olupona  On August 17, 2026, the University of Ibadan management released cut-off marks for the 2026/2027 session via its official Facebook platform, following the POST-UTME examination held exactly three weeks earlier.  Students who sat for the examination are required to check their results as the cut off marks are strictly designed for students who meet the University's aggregates. The bootcamp , organised by the National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies(NASELS), University of Ibadan, was themed "Future Ready Academy and AI Boot Camp."   Adewale Amoo  The University of Ibadan Students' Union, led by Adeboye Temidayo (DEBOYE), has announced an extension of the add-and-delete deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, which was earlier scheduled to close on 14th August 2026. According to a short statement obtained via the official WhatsApp status of the Students' Union President, Comrade Adeboye Temidayo (DEBOYE), the extension was secured following engagement with the University management. "The closure of the Add and Delete Portal, earlier scheduled for tomorrow, has been granted a one-week extension. The portal will therefore remain open until Friday, 21st August," the statement read. The union further enjoined students to make good use of the grace period: "Students who still have issues with their course registration or need to make necessary additions or deletions are advised to make use of this grace period and ensure that their course forms are properly sorted before the new deadline....

Adewale Amoo  The University of Ibadan management has opened the portal for the 2025/2026 academic session NELFUND loan refund. In a statement made available to the student community by the Students' Union President, Comrade Adeboye Temidayo (DEBOYE), via his personal WhatsApp status, all students who have paid their school fees in full or in part before the approval of their NELFUND loan for the 2025/2026 academic session are required to log in to https://uinelfundsupport.ui.edu.ng and provide the necessary information for refunds. "The portal for refund will be open from Monday, 17th August 2026, for a period of four (4) weeks. Students are advised to read and carefully follow all instructions in the manual before submitting the required details. The status of refund can be tracked on the same platform.   Olumurewa Damilola  The Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS), University of Ibadan, has issued a strong warning against indecent dressing within the Faculty of Arts, stating that offenders will be asked to leave the premises until appropriately dressed. In a public notice signed by AFAS President, Adeyefa Ebenezer and General Secretary, Ayorinde Olayode J., the association cautioned students and visitors against wearing bum shorts, extremely short skirts or trousers, transparent or excessively ripped clothing, and any attire considered indecent, saying such conduct falls short of the dignity and standards expected of the institution. Following up on the notice, Ebenezer, in a personal statement, disclosed that the directive has already been approved by the Dean and Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Arts, with all Heads of Department copied.   Joy Olu-Ajayi The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies, University of Ibadan (NASELS), in collaboration with The Phoenix Cabinet (TPC), has on the 10th of August, announced the Future Ready Academy, a two-week technological and soft skills learning programme open to all students of the University of Ibadan. According to the flyer announcing the programme, participants are expected to "learn practical skills, build confidence, and become future-ready." The training is scheduled to be held on the 14th and 15th of August, and will continue on the 21st and 22nd of August. The Academy is expected to cover four key areas: Product Management, Artificial Intelligence Essentials, Project Management, and Writing and Publishing. The programme fee has been fixed at N1,000, and intending participants have been advised to keep their payment evidence for confirmation.   Joy Olu-Ajayi The Association of Faculty of Arts Students, University of Ibadan (AFAS) has announced Friday, 14th August 2026, as the deadline for payment of the Faculty ID Card, stating that there will be no extension. In the memo, students wishing to obtain the ID Card are advised to complete their payment together with  the Basic Dues through the online Bidra payment link. According to the breakdown provided, Basic Dues cost N4,000, while the Faculty ID Card costs N1,000, bringing the total to N5,000, exclusive of applicable transaction charges. Students were also urged to pay only the precise sum indicated on the payment platform, as this would guarantee smooth processing of the transaction and prompt delivery of the receipt to their email address.  The memo further noted that students who “have already paid for the Faculty ID Card are required to join the AFAS community and their respective departmental groups using the link attached to the memo”. 

  Joy Olu-Ajayi The Association of Faculty of Arts Students, University of Ibadan (AFAS) has notified its financial members of the impending convening of an AFAS Congress, in line with the provisions of the AFAS Constitution. The notice, dated 9th August, 2026, made reference to Chapter 4 of the Constitution, which provides that "there shall be for the association a congress which shall comprise all financial members of the Association. All financial AFASITES shall be entitled to attend and participate in the business of the congress." It also drew on Article 15(i) on the Powers of the Congress, which states that "the supreme authority of the association shall be vested in the congress, which shall meet at least once per semester."   Joy Olu-Ajayi The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI) has concluded the training session for its inductees-to-be, which commenced on 3rd August 2026 and ended on 7th August 2026, with an examination scheduled for 8th August to mark the conclusion of the induction process. The first three days of the training were designated "Masterclass Training" for both the inductees and members of the UCJ, during which alumni and guests were invited to train the inductees-to-be on the important principles and practice of journalism. The first day opened with Mr Gbenga Oloniniran, a media consultant and environmental analyst, who introduced the inductees-to-be to news writing.   Adewale Amoo   The University of Ibadan Students' Union has invited the student community to a town hall meeting scheduled to hold at 3:00 pm on Friday, 7th August, 2026 at the SRC Chambers.  According to the statement, the agenda of the meeting includes: The State of the Union, Presentation of Status Reports from all Constituencies and Any Other Business.  The statement further encouraged all Principal Officers of the SRC, all Faculty Presidents, all Hall Chairpersons and all Departmental Presidents to be in attendance for appropriate and productive representation.  The statement reads, "Your presence is essential as we deliberate on matters affecting the welfare, progress, and collective interests of the student body.
