  Joy Olu-Ajayi  The Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS), University of Ibadan, has officially announced the commencement of its night reading programme on the 30th of April, 2026 which is aimed at promoting effective academic engagement among students.. According to the notice, the night reading exercise will run daily from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m . Designated venues include NFC 02A and 02B for silent reading, while the NFC Basement Classroom has been allocated for brainstorming and group discussions. The council also outlined guidelines to ensure order and productivity during the exercise. Only AFASites will be granted access and the presentation of a valid student identity card is mandatory for entry. Students using NFC 02A and 02B are required to maintain strict silence, while all discussions are restricted to the basement classroom.   Joy Olu-Ajayi  The University of Ibadan Students' Union in a notice signed by the Union's President, T. S Adeboye, has convened an Emergency Stakeholders' Meeting after a 48-hour ultimatum to the University Management over the campus power supply crisis expired by 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 28.  The notice reads: “Following the expiration of the ultimatum and in view of the continued irregular power supply across campus, the Students' Union remains concerned about the ongoing discomfort, academic disruption and welfare challenges faced by the students”.  The meeting is scheduled for April 30 at 4:00 PM in the SRC Chamber, with mandatory attendance for the SRC Speaker, Hall Chairpersons, Faculty Presidents, Faculty Councillors and the Departmental Presidents.  The notice further states that decisions reached will determine the Union's next steps and further updates are expected following the meeting.

Adeboye on the 28th April 2026, has extended the school fees payment and course registration deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, following the initial deadline set for the end of this month, 30th April 2026. In the statement, the Union has communicated the extension of both school fees payment and course registration for the current session to 11th May 2026. "The Students' Union of the University of Ibadan wishes to inform the general student body that, following sustained engagement with the University Management, an additional extension has been granted on the deadline for school fees payment and course registration," the statement read in part. Joy Olu-Ajayi  The University of Ibadan Students' Union on April 26, 2026, issued a memo demanding the immediate restoration of stable electricity across campus, giving the university management a 48-hour deadline to address the situation. In the memo, the union expressed deep frustration over the persistent erratic power supply and ongoing electricity rationing affecting students. According to the memo, the union claimed to have previously engaged the university management through consultations and dialogue in a bid to resolve the issue.   Abigail Kareem   The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has raised concerns over the persistent irregular power supply affecting students, describing the situation as “epileptic power supply.” In a letter dated April 24, 2026, addressed to the university management, the Union noted that students have endured over four weeks of unstable electricity, often following a one-day-on, one-day-off pattern that has negatively impacted daily living conditions on campus. The Union highlighted that the situation has significantly affected academic activities, as there's struggle to charge essential devices needed for online classes and assessments. It stressed that “many students have reported difficulties participating effectively in these academic requirements due to inability to charge mobile devices and laptops.” The lack of consistent power supply places students at an academic disadvantage and limits their ability to participate fully in digital learning.   Adewale Amoo The management of the University of Ibadan, in an internal memorandum released 16th April, 2026, has reaffirmed that the stipulated timeframe for the registration deadline and portal closure for the 2025/2026 academic session has been maintained in consideration of the recently published timeline for the process. In an internal memorandum signed by the institution's registrar, G.O. Saliu, it was stated that "All students are hereby informed that the recently published registration timeline remains in full effect." The management reaffirmed that the designated timeline for the registration process is still being maintained and remains effective, with registration opening until 30th April 2026 and closing on 1st May 2026. "The registration portal for the 2025/2026 session is open until 30th April 2026 and closes on 1st May 2026, as previously communicated," the memorandum stated.   Adewale Amoo On Wednesday, 15th April 2026, the Oyo State Federal High Court reinstated three rusticated students of the University of Ibadan, Mide Gbadegesin, Ayodele Aduwo and Nice Linus, following the Central Students' Disciplinary Committee's (SDC) approval of a four-semester rustication for the students. In a statement accessed via the WhatsApp page of one of the students, Ayodele Aduwo, he stated, "The Federal High Court, Ibadan Division, has ordered the immediate reinstatement of the UI3." It will be recalled that the affected students were rusticated during the 2024/2025 academic session following their display of placards inscribed with "Fees Must Fall" during the 2023/2024 Students' Union swearing-in ceremony led by Bolaji Aweda. As at the time of filing this report, our correspondent's attempts to communicate with any of the affected students were unsuccessful. S. Adeboye, following concerns over financial challenges and delays in NELFUND disbursement.  The statement announced that the new deadline for both school fees payment and course registration has been fixed for April 30.  The statement reads, “All students are strongly advised to take note of this date and act accordingly, as it stands as the operative deadline for compliance”. 

  Joy Olu-Ajayi  The Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS), Association of Faculty of Arts Students, has officially announced a scholarship opportunity in a notice dated April 10th, 2026, targeted at students who are double orphans within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ibadan. “This opportunity is strictly for double orphans, that is, individuals who have lost both parents,” the notice stated, clarifying the eligibility criteria.  Students interested in applying or referring others should contact the AFAS President or General Secretary directly via the phone numbers listed in the notice.

  Adewale Amoo In commemoration of Easter, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor K.O. Adebowale, has extended his warm Easter message to the academic staff, students and administrative and technical staff. In a release accessed through the University website, Adebowale greeted all members of the University community and Nigeria at large, urging everyone to drive safely, celebrate responsibly and be vigilant about their security and wellbeing.
