 DR. AYODELE A. OSISANWO BECOMES FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Zenas Olanipekun Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of the Department of English, University of Ibadan has received his promotion to become a full Professor, effective October 1st, 2025 . He is now Professor Ayodele A. Osisanwo. His field cuts across Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. In an interview with the NASELS Press, he admitted that the validation process started a year ago, but the journey itself involved burning the midnight oil, considering the number of papers he had to write and submit for assessment. When asked how he feels about the promotion, he said, “attaining the professorate is usually something of joy, something one prays about and something many desire." He is grateful to have achieved the great feat in a year stating the fact that the process is not usually easy.”  Professor Osisanwo is a widely published lecturer whose research has appeared in both national and international journals.

  ASUU Suspends Two-Week Warning Strike, Gives FG One- Month Ultimatum  Funmilola Adediji The Academic Staff Union of Universities has suspended the two week warning strike on Wednesday, 22 October, 2025. The announcement was made by ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna at a news conference in Abuja. The union gives the Federal Government one-month to address the union's demand. The warning strike, which began on 13 October, was a result of the delay in addressing the union's demands. After days of negotiations with the federal government, the union has decided to suspend the strike, giving a month ultimatum to the government.

  Election Activities to Commence as AFASIEC Lifts Ban Oluwafeyisayo Adebanjo  Election activities are set to commence as the Association of Faculty of Arts Independent Electoral Commission (AFASIEC) lifts ban. The official announcement was made in a circulation in the early hours of Wednesday, 22 October, 2025, marking the commencement of the election process for the Faculty of Arts students.  The announcement reads this: “We are pleased to announce the lifting of the electoral ban, effective immediately. This marks the beginning of the election process for the Faculty of Arts students.” The committee has called on aspiring candidates to purchase the election forms and contest for different positions once the sales of forms begin.   UI'SU Writes FG, Ministry of Education, Calls for Intervention to Stop ASUU Strike Oluwafeyisayo Adebanjo  The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has written to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Ministry of Education, urging them to avert the proposed ASUU strike scheduled to commence on October 13th, 2025. The Union asserted that while they are not ignorant of the longing dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government, Nigerian students remain the most vulnerable group, facing the repercussions whenever such unresolved contradictions occur between the two parties.   ASUU Declares Nationwide Two-Week Warning Strike, Begins Monday Olumurewa Damilola  The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week warning strike across all public universities in Nigeria. The strike is set to begin at midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025, following the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum the union gave to the Federal Government on September 28. Announcing the decision at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday, ASUU President Prof. Chris Piwuna said the strike would be “total and comprehensive,” meaning all academic activities, lectures, exams, and administrative work will be suspended during the two-week period. According to ASUU, the decision became necessary after the government failed to implement key parts of the 2009 ASUU–FGN agreement, improve university funding, or settle outstanding Earned Academic Allowances and salary arrears.
