 UI Extend Exams Period to Dec 31st, Stirs Reactions Amidst Students

The University of Ibadan Management has released an updated academic calendar that extends examination period to Dec 31st, 2025, stirring different reactions amidst students.

The management revised the current academic calendar, extending it by two weeks to accommodate the disruption caused by the two-week ASUU strike. With this, GES exams will begin on the 24th of November, 2025 while Faculties exams will begin from 1st December to 31st December, 2025.

The updated calendar has however stirred different reactions amidst students who realised they will be spending the festive period at school as examination spans to the end of the year.

Speaking with Boluwatife, a 300 level Philosophy student, he said “for me, I will say that the updated academic calendar is logically drafted. Why? The two week extension will be a kind of advantage for students to prepare, and to cover up those areas of confusion in their courses”.

Fumilola from the Department of English remarked that it is good. “The fact that students have an extra two weeks to cover up for the ASUU strike. I also think finishing the semester this year is a good idea.”, she concluded 

A Law student, Moyosore, sees it as a sign of relief. “The new calendar will give me ample time to read and prepare for exams. Then other activities can be scheduled, for instance LSS elections can be held before exams, because if the calendar has not been revised we will have to have the elections after exams due to the fact that electoral commissioners were ratified late,” she explained.

Happiness, a 400 level student of Agricultural Economics felt indifferent about it. She said, “I am indifferent. It didn’t really affect my plans. I'll finish exams before Christmas and I'll still graduate next year.”

Tobi, a final year student studying Sociology agreed it’ll give him more time to prepare for exams and work on his project but “it also extended the time he planned to stay in school. Besides, this will extend the mobilisation of some students for NYSC”, Tobi added.

However, Ayomide, a student of the Department of English, lamented that it will disrupt her plans and expectations for the festive season. According to her, “it is disheartening to see that I’ll be spending Christmas in school writing exams and even up to the new year”. 

Also, a 300-level student expressed her concerns about the extension, noting that the notice came at a time when festive activities are reaching their peak and distractions are inevitable. She said, “the extension is quite inconvenient, as many students had already made travel plans or arranged personal activities for the break.” According to her, “it is difficult to stay focused amidst the excitement of the season, but students will have to adapt and do their best to meet the new schedule.”

According to the revised calendar, the 2025/2026 academic session is scheduled to commence on March 9, 2025 with postgraduate and undergraduate students resuming simultaneously.

OSISANWO BECOMES FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Zenas Olanipekun Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of the Department of English, University of Ibadan has received his promotion to become a full Professor, effective October 1st, 2025 .
