 NASELSites Elect New Executives Through E-voting

December 10, 2025, marked a new wave for the National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies, University of Ibadan (NASELS UI) as they elected new executive members through an e-voting platform for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The association’s electoral commission released a memo containing the election results of the votes cast by NASELSites. Emmanuel Blessings emerged as the President-elect with 83 votes, winning against Agbaje Rebecca, who secured 20 votes. Arowojolu Anjolaoluwa, Abioye Omolara, and Agbaje Abolaji emerged as the Vice President-elect, General Secretary-elect, and Assistant General Secretary-elect, receiving 97, 101, and 98 votes respectively.

Aremu Oluwapelunmi won the election for Public Relations Officer with 57 votes against Olaniyan David’s 43 votes. Kolawole Monisola, Ajayi Deborah, and Adejuyigbe Gideon, who all ran unopposed, received 90, 99, and 99 votes respectively, emerging as the Social Director, Treasurer, and Sports Director of the association.

The election had a good turnout as NASELSIEC employed an e-voting platform called Trelct, the first-ever e-voting system used in the department. Despite two postponements of the election’s date due to unstable electricity on campus, the commission still ensured a smooth election process.

Commenting on the electronic voting process, the commissioner, Adewale Samad Blessing said, “The e-voting process was actually very easy and straightforward. It made voting more comfortable for everyone, and because people didn’t have to leave their hostels or step away from whatever they were doing, we ended up getting a really good turnout. Convenience really helped us.”

Regarding the overall election process, Samad noted that everything went well. “The only challenge we had was towards the end. There was no electricity on campus, so we had to pause for a bit and wait for power to come back before we could proceed with the D-day,” he added.

OSISANWO BECOMES FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Zenas Olanipekun Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of the Department of English, University of Ibadan has received his promotion to become a full Professor, effective October 1st, 2025 . He is now Professor Ayodele A. Osisanwo. His field cuts across Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. In an interview with the NASELS Press, he admitted that the validation process started a year ago, but the journey itself involved burning the midnight oil, considering the number of papers he had to write and submit for assessment. When asked how he feels about the promotion, he said, “attaining the professorate is usually something of joy, something one prays about and something many desire." He is grateful to have achieved the great feat in a year stating the fact that the process is not usually easy.”  Professor Osisanwo is a widely published lecturer whose research has appeared in both national and international journals.

NASELS Press Holds Picnic and Handover Ceremony, Unveils New Editorial Board By Esther Ogunleye  The Nigerian Association of English and Literary Studies (NASELS) Press held its picnic and handover ceremony on 21st December, 2025, marking the official transition from the outgoing editorial board to the newly elected executives. The event, beginning with the press prayer, combined fun activities with formal proceedings, bringing together members of the press in a relaxed but composed atmosphere. It served both as a celebration of the outgoing team’s efforts and a call to greater responsibility for the new leadership.
