The Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ UI) Congratulates FIJ on Its 5th Anniversary

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI), has congratulated the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) on the occasion of its fifth anniversary, in a statement released on the 23rd of January, 2026. 

The UCJ UI praised FIJ for its impactful investigative reports that have “exposed corruption, human rights abuses and systemic failures” in Nigeria. It was also noted that FIJ, founded on 20th of January, 2020 by investigative journalist and UCJ UI alumnus, Fisayo Soyombo, has remained committed to holding power accountable and “amplifying the voices of the marginalised”.


The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI) also commended FIJ for its efforts in mentoring young journalists through training programmes and workshops which has helped equip early-career reporters with essential journalism skills. The union reaffirmed its support for FIJ’s mission and expressed hope for continued collaboration in promoting quality journalism and press freedom in the country.
