University of Ibadan Students’ Union Clarifies ‘Withdrawal’ Status in Non-Finalist BOL Results, Urges Students to Remain Calm

The Students’ Union has issued an official notice addressing concerns surrounding the recently released non-finalist results under the BOL category, following widespread confusion over the appearance of a “Withdrawal” status on the portal of some students.


In a statement signed by the Students’ Union President, T. S. Adeboye, the Union acknowledged that several students particularly those in the Second Class Upper, Second Class Lower, and Third Class divisions had raised complaints after noticing the unexpected status attached to their academic records.


According to the notice, the “Withdrawal” status may, in certain cases, be attributed to failure to meet the required pass units necessary for progression to the next academic level. This, the statement explained, could result in withdrawal from the department or faculty in line with existing academic regulations.


However, the Union also disclosed that some “minor” issues have been identified in some cases. The Exams and Records Unit has reportedly been notified and is currently reviewing the reported anomalies to ensure accuracy and fairness in the results.


Students who fall within the affected categories, especially those whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) remains above the minimum requirement but still reflect a “Withdrawal” status have been strongly advised to take immediate action. The Union directed such students to report promptly to their respective Head of Department (HODs), submit detailed course information and result records, and officially lodge complaints for proper documentation. 


The statement emphasised that these steps are necessary to facilitate urgent review by the appropriate academic authorities and to prevent genuine cases from being wrongly penalised.


While reassuring students, the Union urged the students to remain calm, noting that measures are already in motion to address all verified cases. It further assured the student body that updates would be communicated as soon as additional information becomes available.
