The Department of English Holds Freshers' Orientation

The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), University of Ibadan on the 27th March 2026, officially welcomed newly admitted students into the department at Room 32, Faculty of Art, with an orientation programme that featured important announcements aimed at guiding freshers through their academic journey.
The programme started by 11:08 a.m. with an opening prayer. This was followed by the recognition of some lecturers that were present, including Dr. Rita Okonoboh-Fagbayi and Dr. Akinmurele.
The NASELS President, Blessings Emmanuel was called up for the welcome address and she warmly received the freshers and encouraged them to make the most of their academic experience. The event also featured the recognition of the NASELS executives, including the President, Vice President, Assistant General Secretary (AGS), General Secretary (GS), Social Director, Sports Director, and Public Relations Officer (PRO).
Dr. Rita Okonoboh-Fagbayi delivered a personality address, presenting a lecture on the session’s course unit additions. During this segment, the Head of Department, Prof. Lamidi made an entrance and was warmly welcomed. The national anthem was then led by Miss Becca, while the school anthem was led by the AFAS Vice President, Abigail Okunola.
Prof. Lamidi, the Head of Department, addressed the students, congratulating them on securing admission into the department despite the competitive selection process. He encouraged them to remain focused, diligent, and committed to their studies. During his speech, Dr. Oyetimi arrived and later reinforced the HOD’s message by urging students to pay their dues promptly and actively participate in clubs and associations.
Dr. Akinmurele and Dr. Ayeni, both of whom offered brief but impactful words of encouragement to the freshers delivered additional remarks. Contributions also came from the Academic Director, Victor Siyanbola.
Representatives from various student bodies, including the L&D President, Olabiyi Temiloluwa; the NASELS Christian Fellowship represented by Victor Siyanbola; NASELS Press, MSSN, and SFC, also addressed the students, introducing their organisations and encouraging freshers to get involved.
The event ended with an announcement of the Freshers’ Picnic scheduled to be held tomorrow, 28th March, 2026 by 10:00 a.m. at the Faculty of Agriculture.
