Two Months Without Upkeep, NANS Demands Immediate NELFUND Disbursement

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the immediate disbursement of outstanding monthly upkeep allowances to beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).


In a statement released on Saturday, 20th June 2026, through the association's President, Akinteye Babatunde Azeez, on his verified X page (formerly known as Twitter), the President condemned the consequences of the delay on the beneficiaries of the initiative.


"I have it on good authority that the disbursement of students' upkeep allowances has been on hold for the past two months, with no clear explanation or accountability from the relevant authorities. This unfortunate situation has generated widespread anxiety among Nigerian students who are beneficiaries across the country," the President stated.


He called on the Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, and other stakeholders to take swift action to ensure the disbursement of all outstanding upkeep allowances without further delay.


"NANS calls on the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr; the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa and the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, to urgently intervene and ensure that all bottlenecks responsible for the delay are immediately addressed. We urge the relevant authorities to provide a clear explanation to Nigerian students and commence the disbursement of all outstanding upkeep allowances without further delay," the statement read in part.


The President assured Nigerian students of his firm commitment to ensuring that their interests are protected and that their collective voice is amplified on matters affecting their academic pursuits and well-being.

OSISANWO BECOMES FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Zenas Olanipekun Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of the Department of English, University of Ibadan has received his promotion to become a full Professor, effective October 1st, 2025 . He is now Professor Ayodele A. Osisanwo. His field cuts across Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. In an interview with the NASELS Press, he admitted that the validation process started a year ago, but the journey itself involved burning the midnight oil, considering the number of papers he had to write and submit for assessment.
