The University of Ibadan Students' Union has extended a congratulatory message to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, as his tenure draws to a close.

In a congratulatory release signed by the Students' Union President, T.S. Adebayo (Deboye), the union appreciated the outgoing 13th Vice-Chancellor, describing his tenure as student-oriented and commending his prompt action on matters affecting the student body.

"On behalf of the entire student body of the University of Ibadan, the University of Ibadan Students' Union, under the leadership of Adeboye Temidayo (DEBOYE), extends its heartfelt appreciation and warm congratulations to our esteemed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale O. FAS, mni, on the successful completion of his tenure as the 13th Vice-Chancellor of Nigeria's Premier University."

The release further commended the quality of leadership demonstrated by the Vice-Chancellor, noting that his tenure upheld a responsibility that fosters vision, resilience, wisdom and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Deboye also acknowledged the outgoing Vice-Chancellor as a principal who willingly engaged with students on matters affecting their welfare and academic experience, describing his tenure as one always open to dialogue and committed to preserving the values and reputation of the institution.

"As a Students' Union, we acknowledge your willingness to engage with students on matters affecting our welfare and academic experience. While every administration is accompanied by its own challenges, your openness to dialogue and your commitment to preserving the values and reputation of the University remain commendable," the release read in part.

Furthermore, the statement stressed that Adebowale's tenure "strengthened the University's pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community services, while sustaining the legacy that has continued to make the University of Ibadan a reference point for higher education in Nigeria and beyond."

The union appreciated the dedication, sacrifice, and contributions made to the growth of the institution, noting that his vision and impact will continue to inspire future generations of administrators, scholars, and students.

The congratulatory message concluded by appreciating the Vice-Chancellor and extending prayers for him: "May God grant him excellent health, renewed strength and greater accomplishments in the years ahead, as he continues to contribute to national development and humanity at large."

With his tenure ending on November 1, 2026, Professor Kayode Adebowale is set to hand over the leadership of Nigeria's premier university to his successor, Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba.

It will be recalled that this congratulatory message was released following the national President of NANS' description of the Adebowale administration as unfriendly and narcissistic towards students and his call on the ICPC to investigate his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.
