UCJ UI Concludes 5-Day Training for Intending Members

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI) has concluded the training session for its inductees-to-be, which commenced on 3rd August 2026 and ended on 7th August 2026, with an examination scheduled for 8th August to mark the conclusion of the induction process.


The first three days of the training were designated "Masterclass Training" for both the inductees and members of the UCJ, during which alumni and guests were invited to train the inductees-to-be on the important principles and practice of journalism.


The first day opened with Mr Gbenga Oloniniran, a media consultant and environmental analyst, who introduced the inductees-to-be to news writing. He was followed by Mr Yinka Adeniran, a journalist with The Nation newspaper, who handled the topic "Media Law".


On the second day, 4th August, three speakers were in attendance. Mr Wale Akinselure, a senior correspondent at Punch Newspaper, addressed the Ethics of Journalism, stating, "To be an ethical journalist, you have to value a good name and a lasting legacy over riches." He was followed by Mr Fatteh Hamid, a multimedia investigative journalist, whose session focused on Features Writing and Opinion Writing. Mr Yusuf Nurudeen, a data journalist and research analyst at TheCable, subsequently took a session on data journalism.


The third day, 5th August, featured Mr Gbenga Oyetola, a seasoned media professional; Mr Bioluwatife Akinyemi, a senior reporter and news sub-editor at the Nigerian Tribune; and Mr Alao Abiodun, a senior reporter with The Nation newspaper.


The final two days of the training were handled by editors within UCJ. On Thursday, 6th August, Akanni Oluwasegun Michael, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, took the session on news writing, while Utibe Emmanuel, Editor-in-Chief of UCJ, guided the inductees-to-be through the history of journalism.


The concluding day, held via Google Meet, brought the training to a close. Michael Oluwapamilerin, Sports Editor of UCJ UI, took the students through sports journalism. He was followed by Joy Esther Olu-Ajayi, Broadcast Editor of UCJ UI, who explained the concept of broadcast journalism. Akanni Oluwasegun Michael then introduced the students to politics writing. The training concluded with a final session delivered by Utibe Emmanuel, who explained the concept of features writing.

 DR. AYODELE A. OSISANWO BECOMES FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Zenas Olanipekun Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of the Department of English, University of Ibadan has received his promotion to become a full Professor, effective October 1st, 2025 . He is now Professor Ayodele A. Osisanwo. His field cuts across Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. In an interview with the NASELS Press, he admitted that the validation process started a year ago, but the journey itself involved burning the midnight oil, considering the number of papers he had to write and submit for assessment. When asked how he feels about the promotion, he said, “attaining the professorate is usually something of joy, something one prays about and something many desire." He is grateful to have achieved the great feat in a year stating the fact that the process is not usually easy.”  Professor Osisanwo is a widely published lecturer whose research has appeared in both national and international journals.

NASELS Press Holds Picnic and Handover Ceremony, Unveils New Editorial Board By Esther Ogunleye  The Nigerian Association of English and Literary Studies (NASELS) Press held its picnic and handover ceremony on 21st December, 2025, marking the official transition from the outgoing editorial board to the newly elected executives.
