University of Ibadan English Lecturer Appointed West Midlands Open University Vice-Chancellor

The first Professor of Literature and Medicine in Nigeria from the Department of English, University of Ibadan, and the former DLC Director, Professor Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale, was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Ikeja, on the 27th August, 2026.


Omobowale’s appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution was announced through a congratulatory message by the erstwhile Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and the Chairman of the Governing Council, West Midlands Open University, Professor Idowu Olayinka, via his official Facebook page.


“Kindly join me in congratulating Professor Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale of the Department of English, University of Ibadan, on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Ikeja, Lagos State,” the statement reads in part.


The statement further reads: “Omobowale, 57, holds a B.A. in English with Second Class (Upper Division), an M.A. in Literature in English, and a Ph.D. in Literature in English, all from the University of Ibadan. He also holds an M.A. in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. He was awarded the Departmental Prize for Literature as the best graduating student in his set.”


The immediate past Head of the Department of English, University of Ibadan, Professor Nelson Fashina, congratulated Omobowale via the Facebook comment section, saying: “Hearty congratulations to Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale. May your tenure as Vice-Chancellor be memorable in advancing achievements in the fledgling West Midlands Open University.”

 DR. AYODELE A. OSISANWO BECOMES FULL PROFESSOR AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH Zenas Olanipekun Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of the Department of English, University of Ibadan has received his promotion to become a full Professor, effective October 1st, 2025 . He is now Professor Ayodele A. Osisanwo. His field cuts across Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. In an interview with the NASELS Press, he admitted that the validation process started a year ago, but the journey itself involved burning the midnight oil, considering the number of papers he had to write and submit for assessment. When asked how he feels about the promotion, he said, “attaining the professorate is usually something of joy, something one prays about and something many desire." He is grateful to have achieved the great feat in a year stating the fact that the process is not usually easy.”  Professor Osisanwo is a widely published lecturer whose research has appeared in both national and international journals.

NASELS Press Holds Picnic and Handover Ceremony, Unveils New Editorial Board By Esther Ogunleye  The Nigerian Association of English and Literary Studies (NASELS) Press held its picnic and handover ceremony on 21st December, 2025, marking the official transition from the outgoing editorial board to the newly elected executives. The event, beginning with the press prayer, combined fun activities with formal proceedings, bringing together members of the press in a relaxed but composed atmosphere.
